A Night in India @ Toowong

This is my favourite Indian joint ever and there are a lot of good Indian restaurants in Brisbane. Indian/Tibetan/Hare Krishna type foods are always an excellent choice for vegetarians; I guess it is because they have been doing the vego thing for so long that they know how to make it tasty and not feel like you are missing out on the good stuff!

When we go here, it is impossible to go past the palak paneer. I cannot recommend this highly enough, I think this meal should be a staple for any restaurant go-er. They don't skimp on the paneer or bulk it up with potatoes... unlike another Indian chain which does! This dish is utter curry perfection for me.
The other dish we tried was mushroom sabji, this was a real find! We try to be adventurous when we come here and order at last one curry we haven't tasted, along with a 'tried and true.' The sabji was delicious, the mushrooms were probably canned because they were not as soft as I expected them to be, but this made the texture better than expected as mushroom curry does sound a little watery and odd.

My partner insists on the 'fix-ins' such as raita and pickles. The raita is good, nothing to write home about, I think it is hard to go wrong with raita really. Don't get the lime pickles! They are made from dried limes and so are very hard and not enjoyable, I would recommend one of their chutneys instead. The garlic naan here is also the best I have had. Fresh, buttery, garlicky, hot...*drool*

The prices here are very reasonable and if you are really hungry I would definitely recommend pigging out and going for a banquet! All you can eat curry with all the 'fix-ins' with naan. However, for a normal night two curries, naan, raita, chutney and rice are perfect for two. The meals are deceivingly large and filling.

I know it is silly but I really appreciate how they give you complementary rice and also a couple of pappadums to start your meal with.... it is the little things that count. I also like how they actually smile at you (shock!) and ask if you enjoyed your meal, sometimes customer service in Brisbane is lacking, so I deem these things as free extras which help to make my night a little bit better :)

Note: It is important to try to avoid having your curry here as 'mild,' this restaurant's default is medium and so to sweeten it, they use sugar. If you are a fan of sweet curries, then great! But alot of people, including myself, are not. Also, they give the option of 'Super Hot Action' which is their hottest curry... I just wanted to mention this because I think it is hilarious and as a bonus, sounds strangely sexy.
